What is a rooibos latte?

A rooibos latte combines brewed rooibos with steamed milk and, depending on the recipe, a little sweetness or spice.

Brew the rooibos strongly

The infusion needs enough strength to remain present after milk is added. Steam gives the finished drink a creamy texture similar to other tea lattes.

Strengthen the infusion, not the steep alone

  1. Brew rooibos in less water than a plain mug, using freshly boiled water and at least a 5-minute steep as a starting point.
  2. Strain through a fine infuser before adding steamed milk. If the flavour disappears, use more rooibos next time rather than simply more sweetener.
  3. Check a flavoured blend's ingredients if caffeine or allergens matter. Pure rooibos has no caffeine, but a mixed blend can be different.

What does it taste like?

Rooibos brings wood, honey and gentle nuttiness; milk makes those flavours rounder and softer.

What about caffeine?

Pure rooibos is naturally caffeine-free, so the latte is usually caffeine-free unless the blend contains caffeinated ingredients.

Who might enjoy it?

  • You want a milk drink without espresso.
  • You prefer caffeine-free choices.
  • You like mellow, naturally sweet flavours.
