Bergamot is the key
Earl Grey brings black tea and bergamot aroma. Vanilla adds sweetness, while steamed milk softens the tannin and turns the tea into a cafe-length drink.
Keep the Earl Grey clear beneath the milk
- Brew Earl Grey strongly enough that bergamot remains noticeable after milk is added. For a black-tea base, start with a 3 to 4-minute steep.
- Strain, add a little vanilla, then pour in warm or steamed milk. Taste before adding more sweetness.
- If you dislike a perfumed citrus aroma, a chai or rooibos latte may suit you better. Decaffeinated Earl Grey changes the caffeine, not the basic drink.
What does it taste like?
Expect fragrant citrus, soft vanilla, creamy milk and the light briskness of black tea underneath.
What about caffeine?
A London Fog usually contains caffeine because Earl Grey is generally made with black tea.
Who might enjoy it?
